Overview

The Item Analysis report helps teachers determine which items or concepts in a test were answered correctly, incorrectly, or skipped. This report is often used to help identify small groups of students with common needs. School and District Admins have the option to filter this report by grade level. 

How to Run the Item Analysis Report: 

  1. Select the Reports option from the left navigation menu on any page. 
  2. On the Reports page, select Item Analysis. 
  3. Select the class or group for which you’d like to run the report in the left section of the page. (Image 1a) 
  4. Select the tab and test for which you’d like to run the report in the middle section of the page. (Image 1b) 
  5. Customize your report settings in the right section of the page. (Image 1c
  6. Click Run Report in the upper right corner of the page. 

Using the Item Analysis Report: 

Any settings previously configured will automatically be displayed after clicking Run Report. If you make no changes to the settings, then the default settings will be displayed. In this case, the report will be sorted by the least known question(s) first, and any items not tested will be shown as incorrect. To learn more about the three sections of the Item Analysis Report, continue reading.

  • At the top of the Item Analysis Report modal, you can change your Subject Tab and test selections easily via the dropdown menu.  
  • You can also change your Sort Options, which include the ability to sort by: 
    • Least Known – Displays the least known item(s) first in the graph 
    • Most Known – Displays the most known item(s) first in the graph 
    • Question Order – Displays the questions in the order the student answered them 
    • Alphabetical – Displays the questions in ascending alphabetical order 
Data Analysis Section (Image 2b) 
  • The graph displayed reflects data for the tab and test chosen as well as the Sort and Not Tested options selected above. 
  • Hovering over any bar in the graph shows a breakdown of the count of correct, incorrect, and not tested responses per question as well as the test item title.  
  • Click on any bar in the graph to see a more detailed breakdown which lists the names of students who answered the specific question correctly, incorrectly, or were not tested. 
  • Within the Chart Details section to the left, you also have the option to download the list via the download icon in the upper right corner beside the Chart Details title. 
Download Options (Image 2c) 
  • To download the report, click the Download button in the lower right corner. 
  • Choose between PDF and Excel file types. 
    • PDF – Downloads a report which is visually similar to the report displayed on your screen 
    • Excel – Downloads a data-centric report which is divided into three tabs: 
      • Test Name – Provides student and item specific information directly related to the report displayed on your screen 
      • Details – Groups students into three categories per item: correct, incorrect, and not tested 
      • Graph – Provides a graphic file of the bar graph displayed on your screen 

Note: District & School Administrators have the additional option to filter the report by grade level. (Image 2a)
